Eggan & Utica Elite Champs

Eggan Excavating repeated as men's champs and Utica Elite did likewise in the women's league in finals played Aug. 12 at MVCC.

Rim Rockers came back from an 11-point deficit to tie the games at 71 apiece, but Eggan Excavating ran off 10 straight points to close out an 83-74 win and second straight championship. Mickey Davis' 28 points kept the Rockers in the game and Ryan Roland's run of threes tied the game. Julian Lipinski's three gave Eggan back the lead for good. League MVP Shea Bromirski led Eggan with 22 and Ej Gallup added 21. Roland finished with 18.

St. Bonaventure's Danielle Migliori made up for two missing starters to lead Utica Elite to a repeat women's championship, 60-47, over Rim Rockers. Migliore had 26 points and Syracuse University's Miranda Drummond 16 for the winners, who were without SU's Tiana Mangakahia and Emily Engstler, both who headed home after their college summer session. Fourteen-year-old Kaia Henderson added 11 points for Elite. Stevie Ray with 16 and Lyteshia Price with 10 led the Rockers.

Men's Playoffs

Quadsimia 96, Eannace 74

After losing a number of close games, 6th seed Quadsimia busted out with a first round playoff win over Team Eannace (3), 96-74. Ryan Schmadel had his best game of the season, burying threes for a total of 3 for the winners. Teammate Dave Golembiowski added 25, and Josh Gregory 16. Jimmy Boeheim led Eannace with 25, and brother Buddy Boeheim had 20.

Eggan Excavating 97, Hard2Guard 73

Top seed Eggan Excavating rolled past Hard2Guard (8), 97-73 in a first round playoff game. Sharp shooter EJ Gallup led Eggan with 37 points and Dom Milka added 21. Dante Griffin with 22 and Will Morre with 14 topped H2G.

CNY Sealcoating 90, Underdogs 84

Josh Henderson's and-one 3-point play and Ernie McCovery's 3-point shot gave 4th seed CNY Sealcoating a six-point lead over the Underdogs (#5) in the last few minutes, and they held on for a 90-84 win. The winners play top seed Eggan Excavating at 7:45 Friday in the semi-finals. The Underdogs Anthony Bryant had a huge game with 39 points, but a CNY countered with a balanced attack. Henderson and 25 and McCovery 19, while Jalen Hawkins had 16, Roy Holliman 14 and Lavoy Legget 13. Jamail Stanley kicked in 17 for Underdogs.

Rim Rockers 85, TVP 85

Seventh seed TVP put a scare into #2 Rim Rockers, but fell, 88-85. Rim Rockers go on to the 6:30 semi-final Friday against #6 Quadsimia. TVP had a three-point attempt miss in the final seconds. The Rockers held on behind 32 points from Cornelius Vines and 21 from Dajuan Coleman. Tyler Bertram hit a number of critical three-point shots for TVP, finishing with 32. Jeremiah Sparks had 20, but hit the rim on the last shot that could would have tied the game.

Semifinals

Rim Rockers 76, Quadsimia 75

Dajuan Coleman's tip in of a missed shot gave #2 Rim Rockers the lead at 76-75, and #6 Quadsimia failed on two tries in the final seconds, sending the Rockers to Sunday's 3:45 final against Eggan Excavating. Quadsimia led for much of the game, including by as much as 12. The Rockers used their size to create difficult match-ups as the game progressed. Mickey Davis with 25 led the winners, and Cornelius Vines had 21 and Coleman 18. Redell Freeman led Quadsimia with 20 and Dave Golembiowski and Josh Gregory each had 17.

Eggan Excavating 87, CNY Sealcoating 76

Unbeaten Eggan Excavating led throughout the game, but had to step it up in the fourth period after an aggressive #4 CNY Sealcoating closed to within two points. The 87-76 win carries Eggan into the Sunday 3:45 final at MVCC versus #2 Rim Rockers. All five Eggan players scored in double figures. Shea Bromirski had 19, Shea Bromirski 19, EJ Gallup 18, Devin Grimes 18, Dom Milka 17, and Julian Lipinski 13. Lavoy Leggett had a big game for CNY, as the high flyer hit five three-pointers and totaled 21 points, and Jalen Hawkins added 20.

Women's Playoffs

Victory Lap 61, Dragons 37

Emily Durr's 26 points led 5th seed Victory Lap to a 61-37 playoff win over #4 Dragons. Allie Taylor and Taylor Torchia added 11 each for the winners and both Carrie Assimon and Olivia Marshall had 8 for Dragons.

Rim Rockers 51, WBDT 48

A flurry of three-point shots by Stevie Ray and Lyteshia Price pushed the 3rd seed Rim Rockers to a 13-2, but #6 WBDT stormed back to come with 2 late in the game, by Rim Rockers prevailed, 51-48. Ray had 17 points, with Price adding adding 13 and CeCe James 10. Irene Hudson with 15 and Jamia Martin with 12 led WBDT.

Rim Rockers 83, Huskies 72

#3 seed Rim Rockers beat #2 Huskies, 83-72, to earn a spot against Utica Elite in Sunday's 2:30 final at MVCC. Stevie Ray with 28 points and Lyteshia Price with 23 led the Rockers, while Beth Bonin with 27 and McKayla Roberts with 21 topped Huskies.

Utica Elite 85, Victory Lap 57

Utica Elite remained perfect and moved on to Sunday's 2:30 finals at MVCC with an 85-57 win over Victory Lap. Emily Engstler had 19 for the winners and Danielle Migliore 18. Emily Durr with 23 and Allie Taylor with 12 led Victory Lap.
